OPPS Drug Acquisition Cost Survey Due March 31

See the outpatient drug cost reporting requirements for hospitals and resources available to help.

Following its announcement in the Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) final rule for 2026, CMS has opened the OPPS Drug Acquisition Cost Survey module to collect data from hospitals. Submitters have until 11:59 p.m. ET on March 31, 2026 to enter and submit data to CMS.

What Should Hospitals Report on the OPPS Drug Acquisition Cost Survey?

The survey requires hospitals to report acquisition costs for covered outpatient drugs at hospital outpatient departments paid under the OPPS, identified by National Drug Code (NDC), between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025. The required data includes total units purchased and total net acquisition costs, inclusive of all discounts and rebates, for both 340B purchases and non-340B purchases for each NDC. The data collected in the survey will be used to inform payment policy for Part B covered drugs for calendar year 2027 and subsequent years, so it’s important that hospitals report accurate data.

CMS has provided resources to help complete the survey here, including an archived training webinar, the survey template, a submitter user guide, and a list of frequently asked questions. Technical assistance questions related to the data collection system can be submitted to [email protected].
