Swing Bed Programs: Documentation to Support Sustainable Reimbursement

September 16, 2025 Register Now

Shifting Medicare regulations and complex eligibility requirements create challenges for rural and critical access hospitals (CAHs) that have swing bed programs. In the third session of our swing bed webinar series, we share best practices for clinical documentation to help hospitals maintain compliance, reduce costly denials, and secure sustainable reimbursement to support financial performance. We’ll be joined by Dena Klockman, Eastern Plains CFO at Banner Health, who will share insights from her organization’s swing bed program experience.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize when and what information should be documented to support swing bed billing and reimbursement.
  • Implement staff training and processes that enable effective clinical documentation throughout a patient’s stay.
  • Describe and navigate common issues with swing bed programs, including length of stay and reimbursement delays.
