Swing Bed Programs: Navigating the Pre-Admission Process

August 19, 2025 Register Now

To maintain compliance with CMS’ swing bed requirements, rural and critical access hospitals (CAHs) must have robust processes in place to screen patients for eligibility, beginning on the first day of their acute hospital stay. In the second session of our swing bed webinar series, we share best practices to help hospitals establish these processes and assess their readiness for a swing bed program. We’ll be joined by Dena Klockman, Eastern Plains CFO at Banner Health, who will share insights from her organization’s swing bed program experience.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize patient eligibility for swing beds according to the latest Medicare requirements.
  • Develop processes to screen for swing bed eligibility among the patients you serve.
  • Perform a readiness assessment to identify whether your hospital is prepared to successfully implement a swing bed program.
